Stoney Creek HO Permanent Layout

Colour picture: Locos on the Read turntableThe new HO-scale layout is currently under construction at Mortdale clubrooms. Improved running will derive not only from the more prototypical track plan now being adopted, but from the complete replacement of the very aged model railhead with brand new track and points. There is also more space allotted for the scenery behind to contribute to the atmosphere of Read, a station named after the late Norm Read BEM.

For the purpose of control, the layout will be divided into "mainline" and "yards". The "mainline" is controlled from a Central Train Control (CTC) panel, where each block section of track can be under the control of one of five hand-held cab controllers. Each "yard" has at least one dedicated cab controller, with the facility for trains to be under mainline control if desired.

As the layout reaches the first stages of completion, the Prototype Operating Group will again resume meeting at the clubrooms each month. This group operates to a timetable - literally "running trains" the way the real things do... so if you're interested, bookmark our Calendar for the next session!
