  As an additional fundraiser for the annual Sydney Exhibition each October, a layout is always under construction at the clubrooms for the first prize in the exhibition's guessing competition. For reasons of portability and popularity this is usually, but not always, N scale and it often provides stalwart members in one scale the chance to experience modelling in another scale. It also offers beginning members a chance to extend their skills to a facet of model railways perhaps new to them, while raising money for the club at the same time.
